I wanted to join photography because I have always been interested in it. I've been taking pictures for a couple years. But I would like to learn how to professionally take them. when I am older I would like to have a side job in photography, maybe even start my own business. I am taking this class to improve and learn the skills that are needed to make art with a camera.
The Rules of Composition are very important for a photographer to know. I took pictures of nature mostly. I went down town, I went to Chicago by my grandparents, and the photo to the left I took when I went to the Smokey Mountains. when I prepare to take a picture I try to find a good angle, good lighting, and try to find a good distance from the object I want to focus on. The rules of composition made my photos more appealing to others. I used emphasis and contrast a lot by focusing on one thing and blurring the background. In the photo to the left, I chose to focus on the tree. I thought the tree gave off a creepy feeling, especially when I was there in person because their was a crow cackling. I tried to incorporate the creepy dark feeling this tree had in this picture by adding more contrast in it. I struggled with Breaking the Rules in this assignment. I didn't know what to do. But avoiding the center, getting close, and finding an interesting point of view come naturally to me in my photography. I didn't have a real camera for this photoshoot, so if I could go back and retake the pictures with my new camera I think they would be better quality. But as an artist I had to work with what I had.

I liked this photo of shallow depth the most out of all my depth of field photos. I liked it the best because it shows color contrast between the dark green leaves and the white flowers. I'm a big fan of getting up close shots. I love those shots because of the clear subject and the blurry background. Getting close adds emphasis on the subject which is nice. I am also a fan of the detail in this picture. Even though it is in the blurry background, you can still see the detail on the leaves, the light and dark greens, the hint of yellow. In this assignment I struggled with my camera because I am still learning how to use it. so I struggled with blurring things I wanted to blur, and sharpening things I wanted to sharpen. I am going to try to figure out how to use it to improve my pictures for future assignments.

I liked the frozen action in this photo. I think this style of photography is very appealing to people. I think this was one of my better photos in this shoot. In this photoshoot I accomplished my goal from the last photoshoot which was to learn how to use my camera more. I learned how to use different settings on my camera and how to change the shutter speeding the aperture. In the next photoshoot I would like to work on figuring out how to make my pictures more clear. Spending time with my friends, taking pictures of them having fun made me realize how lucky I am to have them. |
I took a picture of some plastic pipes on a shiny reflective backdrop. I took this in my classroom cause my photography teacher set it up for the class. We didn't have as many different lighting or backdrop opportunities at home. I set up my scene by placing the light off towards the front left corner of the table, and grabbing a section of pipes that intertwined in a unique way. I used my rules of composition in the lighting placement, by getting close, and choosing a unique angle no-one else was using. I really like how the light reflects in front of the pipes even though it was on the other side of them. Because of the shimmery reflective background I could show that reflection of the light. In this assignment I really learned to use the different ISOs. I got a feel of them in my last photoshoot, but in this photoshoot I really learned why some ISO levels don't work in certain lighting situations and why they do work in others. I did struggle though with the night time lighting because the lights just kept blurring and I don't know how to fix that, so that is my goal for the next photoshoot.

A parody is an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect. In this assignment we needed to do a photoshoot with parody images of a specific artist we chose. I chose Brett Weston. He is an american artist when does a lot of landscape work, and up close images of objects. Something unique he did was make his photos black and white. In this photoshoot I realized that I have a similar style in photography. I really like to do nature and landscaping photos. But I also enjoy taking very unclose pictures of objects. I think I did well with this assignment because Weston and I both have similar interests. While doing my research on Weston I noticed his underwater nude photographs. I came to appreciate them as an artist. I think with this assignment I could've tried to get more interesting water photos. I think I got a little lazy and worried about wasting water. But I would like to attempt the water photos again and make them better.
I chose to make a collage of these things I found in my home to make it look like Rustic Decor. My original theme for this photoshoot was beauty. I tried to take pictures of ordinary things ad make them look beautiful and appealing. I think people forget that things can be beautiful. Not just girls with makeup. We as a society have made makeup the poster for beauty, and that seems ridiculous to me. Objects can be beautiful. Old things can be beautiful. I tried to show that in these old used books, this rusty air duct, and this random glass pot in my house. I think I could work more on using different principles and different rules of composition, cause I tend to use the same ones. But I think I did a good job of finding a variety of beautiful things during this shoot. I took pictures of people, nature and objects. I think this photoshoot was a success and am looking forward to the next one.

For this photoshoot I chose to take pictures of my friend Jada and her random splits in the choir room at our school. I wanted to capture something funny and somewhat meaningful to myself. Obviously, to my audience this just seems like a random girl doing the splits. But to me this is my best friend trying to bring joy to other peoples lives and just inspire others to live care-free. In this panorama photoshoot I learned that you need to be aware of your surroundings. Because while I did follow the instructions of standing in the same place when taking my photos, the lighting would still need to change. I originally had twelve pictures taken but the sunlight on the far left of the panorama had a different color tone. So I had to eliminate them from my physical panorama to make the pictures tie together more. This was a fun assignment for me personally because I enjoyed physically putting the pictures together like a puzzle. This assignment was cool because we got an idea of how technological panoramas work.

This is my best friend. For this photo, and pretty much all of my portrait photos I got close and avoided distractions to make my subject clear. I like this photo because the colors in the background and the lighting on her glasses bring out the red in her strawberry blonde hair, which is a popular physical characteristic of hers. I enjoyed taking portrait pictures because its fun to make others see what you see, natural beauty. In this photo you can see her humble beautiful personality just in her smile and her eyes, its like magic. I think I need to work more on making a style for myself. I need to work on making my voice come through my photos. Since the school year is coming to an end, that will be my summer challenge for myself. But I enjoyed this photo shoot because it made me get outside my comfort zone a little bit and involve people in my photos. |
